Agragami India is implementing a Livestock Livelihood Project focused on goat rearing across 35 villages in Bodhgaya Block, Gaya, Bihar. During the month, the Agragami team conducted goat weight assessments, particularly of male goats that beneficiaries were planning to sell. The objective was to create awareness among beneficiaries about the importance of knowing the actual live body weight of goats before selling them. It was observed that beneficiaries often underestimated the actual weight of their goats due to a lack of regular weighing practices. As a result, farmers may sell their goats to local traders at a lower price than their actual value. To address this issue, the team weighed 97 male goats across 14 project villages during the month. The activity helped beneficiaries understand the difference between estimated and actual goat weight and highlighted the importance of selling goats based on their actual weight. This initiative is expected to improve farmers’ bargaining capacity and help them obtain better returns from goat rearing.
